BetterLife Directions Pty Ltd is a privately owned, for-profit, Pty Ltd company, first registered in 2002 in Adelaide (South Australia), and now headquartered in the regional area of Hervey Bay (Queensland).
BetterLife Directions offers a full spectrum of psychological, business and human resource consulting services, including Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs). Elizabeth Benson-Stott
Psychologist
As a Psychologist, Elizabeth has worked in both USA and Australia in the fields of Psychology, Mental Health, Human Resources, Education, and Management. She has travelled extensively gaining knowledge of a broad range of cultural aspects. Elizabeth has been a guest speaker at national and international conferences on Suicide Intervention & Prevention, Management, Counselling, Leadership and Psychology.
In 2004 Elizabeth won a national award for Youth Suicide Intervention and Prevention, presented by Suicide Prevention Australia and Hyundai. In 2005 Elizabeth was recognized by the Queensland Government as a semi-finalist for the Queenslander of the Year Awards. Her ongoing contribution to mental health was recognized internationally in 2006 by her peers through her being award the Donald Cohen fellowship, presented by the International Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Allied Professions. In 2006 and again in 2008 Elizabeth was awarded the Australian Institute of Management QLD & NT Rural/Remote Manager of the Year Award (Sunshine Coast).
Elizabeth’s areas of interest are diverse and include indigenous culture (particularly Aboriginal culture), suicide intervention & prevention, forensic psychology (working with police, law and legal processes and correctional services, working with perpetrators, working with offenders), educational psychology (assessment, intervention and counselling for learning and developmental issues), general psychology (diagnosing, treating, injury management, and preventing a range of mental health and general health issues), attachment theory for children & adolescents, pain management, critical incident stress debriefing, domestic and family violence, training and mentoring/coaching, undertaking medico-legal and psychological assessments and report writing, and providing expert information to media/ government/ organisations.

James Stott
Clinical Counsellor
James is a Clinical Counsellor and a Registered Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health Worker.
James has worked in the Management and Business industry since 1993. He has advised Government, Business and the Public Sector in the areas of Leadership, Internet and e-Commerce, Business, Management and Retail. An appointment in 1996 with a national retailer saw him oversee a staff of 52 people and manage a budget of $18M. Since then he established the consultancy business which would eventually merge with Elizabeth Benson-Stott’s private Psychological practice to form BetterLife Directions Pty Ltd in 2004.
James has previously held a position on the national board of Suicide Prevention Australia, the national body that represents to Government the interests of people involved in the prevention of suicide, and on the national board of the Australian Junior Chamber of Commerce. James has completed a Diploma of Psychology, and is currently studying a Bachelors Degree in the same field.
James’ expert interests are in marriage and relationship counseling, men’s issues, organisational and management consulting, employee assistance programs, training, and providing consultation to media/government/organisations.
