What is a Psychologist?

Psychologists are experts who have extensive University level training and experience in the area of human behaviour, psychological and mental health conditions. Sometimes professional assessment and diagnosis may be required to help people. Betterlife Directions employs expert Psychologists who can provide mental health treatment and make diagnoses for people and/or organisations. Betterlife Directions also has a range of Counsellors available to help in areas of emotional wellbeing and mental health. Rebates may be available for private health insurance policy holders. Areas focused on include, but are not limited to:

What issues can a Psychologist help with?

BetterLife Directions’ Psychologists can help with many issues including: marital, family & relationship problems; stress, migraines or pain; fears, phobias, anxiety & panic attacks; depression & unresolved grief; sleeping difficulties; eating & weight control problems; children & adult learning; addictions; becomming better parents & teachers; career planning; personal growth; making better workplaces; improving industrial relations & WH&S.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is necessary … anyone can find us in the Yellow Pages or hear about us through word-of-mouth and then call us directly to arrange an appointment. Your doctor, and other health professional may suggest and/or refer you but it is not necessary as self-referral is very common.

Are there any rebates available?

Absolutely! In fact we make it easy to claim a rebate through private health or medicare. Our office is equipped with HiCaps and Medicare EasyClaim terminals.

For Privately insured clients all you need to do is pay for your session and claim your rebate back from your insurer. Read more about our Private Health insurance rebates for Psychology Services

For Medicare, if your GP has completed a Mental Health Care Plan for you and we have received the appropriate referral details from your GP then all you need to do is pay the session fee upfront and in most cases the Medicare EasyClaim service will have the rebate paid directly back into your nominated bank account within 12-24 hours. This means that you don’t have the worry of running around town, or waiting for your rebate.

How much does it cost?

BetterLife Directions is a private organisation that is not funded by the Government. Private Health insurances may provide rebates for Psychological Services and we encourage you to contact them for more information. Alternatively, a referral from your General Practitioner, Private Psychiatrist, or private Paediatrician, make qualify you for a rebate under Medicare.

You may also be able to claim Psychologists’ fees through your workplace, Employee Assistance Program (EAP) or State accident/compensation scheme.

Fees vary from $180-$212 per 45-50 minute session to see our Psychologist depending on the issue being addressed. A separate scale of fees applies for legal issues.
